Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with the war in the Middle East as the central topic, according to the head of the Indian government on Twitter (X).

According to Modi, he expressed deep concern over the "escalation of tensions and the loss of civilian lives as well as damage to civilian infrastructure."

"The safety and security of Indian nationals, along with the need for unhindered transit of goods and energy, remain India’s top priorities. Reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability and urged for dialogue and diplomacy," he added.

Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz

Since the start of the US-Israel operation against Iran, the Iranian military has blocked the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s main oil export routes.

At the same time, media reports in recent days suggested that Iran may have begun mining the Strait of Hormuz.

Following this, US President Donald Trump stated that American forces are destroying boats that Iran might use to mine the strait.

Today, March 12, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, in his first statement on the matter, said the Strait of Hormuz will remain blocked, as it is a "means of pressure on the enemy."
