In China, powerful winds capsized tourist boats, resulting in the deaths of ten people and injuries to more than 70. Rescue operations are still underway, China's Xinhua news agency and Reuters report.

The tragedy occurred in the southwestern province of Guizhou, where "sudden strong winds" capsized four tourist boats, plunging 84 people into the river.

The incident happened on Sunday, May 4.

As a result of the accident, ten people died. Around 70 tourists were taken to hospitals with "non-life-threatening conditions."

Nearly 500 rescuers were deployed to the scene, and Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered all available resources to be mobilized for search and rescue efforts. Fourteen people remain missing and are currently being searched for.

Xi Jinping also emphasized the importance of strengthening safety measures in tourist areas to prevent similar disasters in the future.

The Chinese President stated that such accidents, which result in mass casualties, pose a serious threat and called on all government bodies to rigorously enforce safety measures - particularly in tourist zones, residential areas, and transportation networks.

Following the incident, Chinese Premier Li Qiang issued instructions to investigate the cause of the accident and assured that all efforts would be directed toward helping the victims and supporting their families.

Earlier, in January, a major earthquake in Tibet claimed many lives. According to state media, at least 95 people were killed and another 130 injured.

The earthquake caused severe destruction and as a result, a large-scale rescue operation was initiated.
