'Too late': Trump declines debate with Harris
US presidential candidate Donald Trump declined the offer from his opponent Kamala Harris to hold another debate. He stated that it was "too late", according to CNN.
Trump justifies his refusal by stating that Americans have already begun voting in the 2024 elections.
"The problem with another debate is that it’s just too late, voting has already started," the former US President said at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He added that Harris only wants the debate because she is losing.
"Now she wants to do a debate right before the election with CNN because she’s losing badly," Trump said.
CNN notes that national polls still do not show a clear leader in the race between Harris and Trump.
What preceded Trump's refusal today
Earlier on Saturday, Harris announced that she accepted CNN's invitation to participate in debates on October 23. Additionally, she urged Trump to agree to the debates as well. In response, Trump's campaign reiterated the former President's previous comments that he would not participate in the new debate.
