The US destroyed the Iranian fleet in three days, sinking 42 enemy ships, US President Donald Trump said at the Shield of the Americas summit.

Strikes' aftermath

According to the US leader, the three-day operation crippled a significant portion of Iran's naval and air capabilities, sinking 42 military ships, including large combat units.

"It has been amazing. We knocked out 42 navy ships, some very large, in three days. That was the end of their navy," Trump said.

He added that the attacks knocked out telecommunications across the country, effectively paralyzing internal coordination of Iranian forces.

"We knocked out their air force, we knocked out their communications," Trump emphasized.

Reasons for operation

The US president explained that these radical measures were prompted by a national security threat and Iran's progress toward nuclear weapons.

According to the president, without this intervention, Iran could have completed its nuclear program within months.

"I do not know how they communicate, but I guess they will figure something else. It's now working not too well," Trump concluded.

Context on Iran situation

Earlier, the US president had announced a major strike on Iran, promising complete destruction of the country's military capabilities if nuclear development continued.

The media outlets previously wondered whether this conflict could become "another Iraq" for the US, or if a quick victory without a prolonged ground war was possible.

In addition, experts warn that a large-scale war in the Middle East is depleting weapons stockpiles, which could create ammunition shortages for Europe and Ukraine.

Media reports also suggest that Trump considered deploying foreign troops to buffer zones to maintain stability in conflict regions.
