The longer Ukrainian Forces hold positions in Kursk, the weaker Putin becomes - UK Ministry of Defense
Ukraine needs to strengthen its front line in the east. The Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region has put some pressure on the Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated UK Defense Secretary John Healey.
"Ukrainians need to strengthen their frontline in the east and they will look to hold the territory in Kursk. The longer they hold Kursk, the weaker Putin becomes. The longer they hold Kursk, the better defended Ukraine will be," he said.
Healey believes that the defense of Ukraine is the starting point for the defense of the United Kingdom. Moreover, he thinks that if Putin wins in Ukraine, he will not stop there.
“If Ukraine is not free, the world is not safe," he said.
UK-Ukraine relations
In January 2024, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a bilateral security agreement, which includes commitments for financial, military, and other types of support. As part of this agreement, Ukraine has pledged to implement a series of reforms in four key areas.
The UK Ministry of Defense has also noted that many individuals in Russia are focused on the destruction of Ukraine as a state. Despite this, the Kremlin claims to be ready for negotiations.
At the same time, UK Defense Minister John Healey has stated that while Britain will not assist Ukraine in targeting objectives within Russia, it may allow Ukraine to use provided weapons for such attacks.
