Tanks, drones, and buggies: Russia's evolving tactics test Ukrainian defenses near Siversk

In the Siversk direction, Russian forces are deploying all available units — from small infantry squads and motorcycles to tanks and armored vehicles. Major Volodymyr Holiahin, Head of Communications for the 81st Separate Slobozhanska Airmobile Brigade, says these constant attacks are backed by heavy drone activity.
Holiahin noted that the situation in the Siversky direction remains difficult. Ukrainian Defense Forces units are forced to repel nearly daily assaults.
Meanwhile, Russian forces try various tactics. Some simplify the job for Ukrainian drone operators targeting their heavy equipment.
"Russia uses different assault tactics, from small foot patrols of one to six people to tanks and lightly armored vehicles. And, of course, motorcycles and buggies," he explained.
Additionally, the major said enemy drones operate very intensively. The enemy tries to strike Ukrainian defenders almost continuously.
"I recently spoke with a soldier who described enemy drone tactics. As soon as one drone completes its drop and returns to reload, another is already approaching and quickly resumes fire. One or two drones provide visual control while others actively carry out strikes," the military official said.
Frontline situation
Over the past day, Russian forces lost 1,080 personnel. Ukrainian troops also destroyed seven tanks, seven armored combat vehicles, 35 artillery systems, two multiple-launch rocket systems, 125 drones, and 158 enemy vehicles.
More details on the situation across all frontlines can be found in the General Staff's briefing.
It is worth noting that Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational-strategic troop group, explained where the fate of Russia's summer campaign is currently being decided.
Additionally, on July 26, the Ukrainian Defense Forces killed the commander of the 83rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 69th Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian army.
