Switzerland plans to allocate 5 billion francs (about $5.8 billion) in aid to Ukraine. The funds are intended for Ukrainian reconstruction projects, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram.

According to Shmyhal, he held a meeting with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.

"In Swiss Lugano, we laid the foundation for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction for the first time. Switzerland actively supports Ukrainian reconstruction projects and intends to allocate 5 billion francs for this by 2036," the Ukrainian Prime Minister said.

He also thanked Switzerland for appointing a special representative for Ukraine's reconstruction. Kyiv expects fruitful cooperation.

Shmyhal reminded Cassis about the regional approach to reconstruction and the patronage of specific regions.

"We want Swiss companies and Switzerland to actively participate in this. An important step in this process will be a visit by a delegation of Swiss businesses to Ukraine next year, which will open up new opportunities for cooperation and investment," added the head of the Ukrainian government.

Another topic of discussions was President Volodymyr Zelensky's victory plan. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Swiss Foreign Minister for supporting the peace formula, sincere solidarity, and providing humanitarian aid.

Switzerland's support

Switzerland is a neutral country, and as such, it cannot provide weapons to Ukrainian defenders. However, despite this, Switzerland has been actively supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia.

Specifically, Swiss authorities have implemented a series of sanctions that the European Union introduced against Russia following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Recently, Bern joined the 14th package of such sanctions.
