In January 2026, Swedish Quick Reaction Alert forces had already intercepted two Russian fighter jets over the Baltic Sea. The Swedish military stated at the time that it maintains round-the-clock air patrols to protect NATO airspace.
Earlier, Swedish and German aircraft jointly intercepted two Russian Su-30 jets over the Baltic Sea. Separately, Polish air forces scrambled jets to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
