Yesterday, January 22, Sweden’s Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) forces intercepted two Russian fighter jets over the Baltic Sea, according to a statement by the Swedish Armed Forces on Twitter (X).

It is noted that on Thursday, January 22, Swedish military personnel intercepted two Su-35S fighter jets that were escorting a Tu-22M bomber over the Baltic Sea.

"4/7 Air Policing protecting NATO," the statement said.

Other interceptions of Russian aircraft

Recently, the Polish Air Force scrambled combat aircraft to intercept and escort a Russian reconnaissance plane flying near the boundary of Polish airspace.

Earlier, several Tu-95MS bombers escorted by Su-33 fighter jets were intercepted over the United Kingdom.

In addition, Poland scrambled its MiG-29 fighter jets to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft. Three such incidents occurred within just one week.

NATO also scrambled fighter jets in response to a Russian reconnaissance aircraft operating over the Baltic Sea. A few days earlier, Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated Estonia’s airspace and remained there for 12 minutes.

Norway has also reported that in 2025, the aggressor country violated its airspace three times, with each violation lasting from one to four minutes.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that NATO countries plan to shoot down Russian aircraft only if they attack their territory.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that Russia lashed out at NATO with threats of war in the event that Russian aircraft are shot down.
