Eleven of the 17 antennas used to communicate with the Starlink satellite system were reportedly targeted in an arson attack near Sofia, Bulgaria. They also provided connectivity to Ukraine, according to Bulgarian lawmaker Ivaylo Mirchev of the Yes, Bulgaria party and BNR News.
Starlink antennas set on fire in Bulgaria
Mirchev called on Bulgaria's intelligence services and the Interior Ministry to answer whether they knew about the attack. He also accused the government of remaining silent.
"It is no coincidence that the very antennas that provide backbone communications with these satellites were set on fire. The same thing happened to the same antennas, again belonging to Starlink, in Poland at the end of September," he said.
In his opinion, Poland informed the public about the incident and responded quickly.
"As a result, two Turkish citizens accused of setting fire to antennas in Poland have been detained in recent hours. The Polish side does not doubt that Russia is behind this," he stated.
Authorities remain silent
Prime Minister Rumen Radev refused to disclose details about the deliberate arson of the antennas because an investigation is underway.
"The investigation is ongoing, and it is extremely intensive. I urge the head of SANS (State Agency for National Security — ed.) not to disclose details at this stage, despite your extremely keen interest," he said.
Radev also assured that the investigation would be completed soon, including with the help of partner intelligence services.
Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev says that security at similar facilities has been strengthened.
Russia is launching a new wave of sabotage operations in European Union and NATO countries. In particular, these criminal activities involve Starlink stations.
In addition, the fire at a Starlink satellite station in Poland is being investigated as an act of sabotage and terrorism carried out in the interests of Russian intelligence services.
