Stoltenberg addresses Russia's campaign against NATO amid rumors about Rheinmetall CEO
Russian intelligence services have launched a campaign against NATO allies, attempting to carry out "hostile actions", stated NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's statement during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was asked to respond to rumors that the US and Germany thwarted Russia's attempt to assassinate Armin Papperger, the CEO of the German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall, which provides military aid to Ukraine.
Stoltenberg declined to comment on this specific information but noted the existence of a Russian campaign organized by intelligence services to conduct "hostile actions" against NATO countries. He clarified that the goal of such a campaign is to intimidate NATO allies into ceasing their assistance to Ukraine.
"What we have seen over the last months is that NATO allies have not been intimidated," added Secretary General.
He emphasized that such intimidation attempts by Russia have a boomerang effect.
What preceded it
Earlier, CNN reported that the US provided Germany with information about Russia's attempt to eliminate Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger. Thanks to this, Russia's plans were foiled.
Also in April, it became known that German left-wing extremists set fire to Papperger's country house in Lower Saxony. The extremists admitted their guilt themselves.
