Russia's plot to assassinate Rheinmetall CEO foiled by USA and Germany - CNN
The Russians planned to kill Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger, but the United States and Germany foiled the operation, according to CNN.
Anonymous sources of the agency revealed that earlier this year, US intelligence discovered a Russian government plot to assassinate the CEO of a powerful German arms manufacturer, that produces artillery shells and military vehicles for Ukraine.
The plot was part of a series of Russian plans to assassinate defense industry leaders across Europe who supported Ukraine's military efforts.
When the Americans learned of these efforts, they informed Germany, whose security services were able to protect the CEO and thwart the plot.
An anonymous German government official confirmed that the US warned Berlin about the plot.
Earlier this summer, Ukroboronprom, and Rheinmetall opened their first workshop for the repair and production of armored vehicles.
