Spain believes that Ukraine should be involved in all negotiations concerning its territory and the future of the country, Sky News reports.

On the eve of the meeting of EU foreign ministers, Albares said that Kyiv should be a direct participant in all negotiations concerning Ukrainian territory and the country's future.

"No one should decide anything about Ukraine's territory without the Ukrainian government," he stressed.

Commenting on the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska scheduled for Friday, August 15, the Spanish minister said that he considers the very fact of dialogue with Putin to be positive, but only if it is aimed at peace.

"Talk about peace, but true peace, not a definitive violation of Ukraine's sovereignty or European security," he emphasized.

Albares also warned against concessions to Moscow.

"If a war of aggression pays off for Russia, the world will be more unstable; anyone could be tempted to grab a piece of their weaker neighbour," he added.

Upcoming talks between Trump and Putin

US President Donald Trump announced that on August 15, he will meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Among the topics discussed will be the issue of Ukraine.

Trump said that a territorial exchange between Ukraine and Russia is possible.

According to the WSJ, Putin may issue an ultimatum regarding Ukraine at the meeting with Trump, namely, to recognize the occupied territories in exchange for the withdrawal of Russian troops from other areas.

Yesterday, European and Ukrainian leaders met with senior US officials in London. This was against the backdrop of concerns about the possible absence of representatives from Europe and Ukraine at the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Europeans fear that Trump and Putin may conclude an agreement without Ukraine's participation and are trying to convince Trump to ensure Zelenskyy's presence at the negotiating table.
