South Korea unveils mini-version of Shahed: What is known about KUS-LM drone
At the KADEX 2024 exhibition in the South Korean city of Daejeon, a mini-version of the Iranian Shahed drone was unveiled. It's called the KUS-LM, according to Defense Express.
The mini-drone was presented by Korean Air Aerospace. In the published photos, the new drone resembles the Iranian Shahed-136 but is significantly smaller.
As reported by Defense Express, the KUS-LM has a wingspan of only 1.2 meters and a length of 1.5 meters, while the Shahed-136 has a wingspan of 2.5 meters and a length of 3.5 meters.
Interestingly, in addition to its reduced size, the KUS-LM drone features a small forward horizontal stabilizer. However, the aerodynamic design remains similar in both drones.
Specifications of the Korean drone
Despite the compact size of the Korean drone, only its speed of 150 km/h is known, while the range capability and warhead weight remain undisclosed.
However, this is not the first drone for Korean Air Aerospace, as the company is a significant player in the industry with a range of drones across various classes. Notably, the reconnaissance-strike drone KUS-FS entered serial production this year.
Recently, RBC-Ukraine reported that the South Korean startup Peach showcased its Papidrone-800 drone at the KADEX 2024 exhibition, which is made from cardboard.
In June this year, South Korea decided to consider the possibility of supplying weapons to Ukraine after North Korea and Russia signed a mutual defense pact in the event of war. South Korea is one of the countries that does not directly supply arms to Ukraine due to legislative restrictions.
