Germany may have delivered an additional Iris-T SLM battery to Ukraine. This would be the eighth such system with Ukrainian defenders, reports German Aid to Ukraine.

Unnamed sources of German Aid to Ukraine reported that the delivery of a new Iris-T SLM system to Ukraine took place two weeks ago. At the same time, Ukrainian defenders were trained to operate the system last month within a few weeks.

Under favorable conditions, each battery is capable of protecting an area of up to 40 square kilometers and striking targets at altitudes of up to 20 kilometers, demonstrating high effectiveness against drones, cruise missiles, enemy aircraft, and other targets.

The standard battery set includes three IRIS-T SLM launchers, a TRML-4D air surveillance and target acquisition radar, a tactical command post, a reloading vehicle, transport for spare parts, and a mobile workshop.

In addition, Ukraine received two additional IRIS-T SLS launchers, which have a shorter range and lower production and procurement cost, making them particularly suitable for targeting drones and other similar threats.

According to German Aid to Ukraine, as of today the German government has already delivered two of the four systems promised for 2025, but it is doubtful that the remaining two will be delivered by the end of the year.

Iris-T modernization

Earlier, the Defense Express portal wrote that Iris-T SLM systems are planned to be modernized. In particular, they will be able to intercept ballistic and even hypersonic missiles.

For such modernization, engineers plan to use artificial intelligence.
