Slovak Prime Minister explained why he is against Ukraine's accession to NATO
Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico has spoken out against Ukraine's entry into NATO. He also discussed the prospect of reconciliation with Russia after the war, reports Kresy.
According to Fico, Ukraine's membership in the Alliance could provoke a global conflict.
"There is a great interest in restoring normal relations with Moscow amid the conflict. I want to pursue a policy of good, friendly relations with everyone interested in such a policy," Fico noted, emphasizing a willingness to cooperate with states worldwide.
Fico also expressed his position on Ukraine's accession to NATO, stating that he would be against it.
"Ukraine's membership in NATO would only benefit the Third World War. Independent Ukraine is enough for us," he said.
Ukraine's path to NATO
In 2022, Ukraine applied for membership in NATO. However, the occupation of some southeastern territories of Ukraine by Russia has slowed down the accession process to NATO.
As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, after Ukraine and Georgia join NATO, the Black Sea should become a sea of the North Atlantic Alliance, similar to the Baltic Sea, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, during the Second Black Sea Security Conference of the International Crimean Platform.
