Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu arrived in Iran today, September 17. He is likely to request supplies of new weapons, according to the press service of the Center for Countering Disinformation.

The Center for Countering Disinformation reminds that this is Sergei Shoigu's second visit to Iran in two months. He had previously visited North Korea and Syria.

"This diplomatic event may indicate that Russia is looking for ways to obtain new weapons from its allies," the Center noted.

The visit comes amid reports that Iran has begun supplying Russia with short-range ballistic missiles.

Background

On September 10, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran, which it is likely already using.

British intelligence further clarified that Iran supplied Russia with Fath-360 missiles, which can target objects up to 120 kilometers away.

With such weaponry, the Russian forces will be able to strike military and civilian targets near the front line while reserving their longer-range missiles for other purposes.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian denies that his country has provided Russia with ballistic missiles.
