The bulk carrier PRIMUS departed from the port of Odesa on Saturday, August 26. The ship had been in the Ukrainian port since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, according to Andrii Klymenko, the head of the Monitoring Group of the Institute for Black Sea Strategic Studies, on Facebook.

"The bulk carrier PRIMUS has become the second ship to leave the port of Odesa after the suspension of the 'grain deal.' It arrived in Odesa on February 20, 2022.

According to Klymenko, the ship is heading to the port of Varna in Bulgaria. The estimated time of arrival is August 27.

The pilot boat PB LOTSMAN MAZHARA is escorting the bulk carrier out of the Odesa port."

What led to this

In July, Russia announced its withdrawal from the "grain deal," claiming its conditions were not met. Subsequently, the Russian military began shelling Ukrainian ports and grain infrastructure in southern Ukraine.

As reported, Ukraine recently declared the opening of temporary corridors for merchant vessels in the Black Sea. However, the Ukrainian Navy stressed that the threat from Russia persists. These routes are primarily intended for the departure of civilian ships that have been in Ukrainian ports such as Chornomorsk, Odesa, and Pivdennyi since the beginning of the war.

It's worth noting that on August 16, the first ship departed from the port of Odesa after the suspension of the "grain deal."
