Satellite images have captured damage at Russia's Kupol plant in Izhevsk following a strike by Ukrainian forces, according to Skhemy (Schemes).

On July 2, a Planet Labs satellite captured the aftermath of a Ukrainian strike on the Russian Electromechanical Plant in the city of Izhevsk, which produces kamikaze drones.

Strike on Shahed drone factory

On July 1, Russia claimed a suspected drone attack on the city of Izhevsk. Explosions were heard near the Kupol Electromechanical Plant.

It was later revealed that long-range drones operated by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) struck the Kupol plant in Izhevsk. Notably, the distance to the target exceeds 1,300 kilometers.

The Kupol enterprise manufactures Tor and Osa surface-to-air missile systems and also develops strike drones of the Harpy type. The plant is under international sanctions due to its involvement in Russia's military-industrial complex.

This is not the first time the facility has been targeted by drones. Similar attacks were reported in November 2024.

The city of Izhevsk itself is known for its military, engineering, and metallurgical industries. It is also where the AK-47 assault rifle is produced.

In September 2024, it was reported that Kupol had launched serial production of a new long-range strike drone called Harpy-A1, developed using a Chinese engine.
