Drones strike Russian factory producing Tor missile systems in Izhevsk
Drones have attacked the Kupol electromechanical factory in Izhevsk, Russia, which produces the Tor air defense systems and radar stations, informs Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, on Telegram.
Local social media outlets reported explosions in Izhevsk on the night of November 17. Residents also shared footage of the blasts and possible impacts on the factory.
According to the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CCD), the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol was hit in the attack.
Kovalenko noted that the Russian factory manufactures the Tor surface-to-air missile systems, as well as radar stations and other components.
It should be added that Izhevsk is the capital of Russia's Udmurtia, located in the central part of the country. The city is known for its military, machine-building, and metallurgy industries. It is also home to the production of the AK-47 assault rifle.
The Kupol plant is one of the largest defense enterprises in Russia. In addition to the Tor missile system, it also manufactures target-training complexes such as Saman-M1 and Adjutant. The plant is also involved in producing gyroscopes, nanocomposites, equipment for nuclear power plants, oil extraction, and conveyor lines for liquor and vodka production.
In September 2024, it was reported that the Kupol factory began producing a new long-range strike drone, Harpia-A1. The drone is based on a Chinese engine.
