Satellite images from NASA captured a fire at an oil refinery in the city of Kirishi in Russia’s Leningrad region. The incident occurred following a drone attack on the night of May 5, Bloomberg reports.
The governor of Russia’s Leningrad region, Alexandr Drozdenko, reported a nighttime attack on an industrial zone in Kirishi and said that the oil refinery had been attacked. However, he did not specify whether the facility itself was damaged.
According to Bloomberg sources, the Kirishi oil refinery, with a capacity of about 400,000 barrels per day, had already been targeted multiple times by drone attacks and has been offline since late March following a previous strike.
The Russian company Surgutneftegas, which owns the facility, has not yet commented on the incident.
