Russians launch 100 drones and missiles over Ukraine: Air defense responds
Russian forces launched nearly 100 drones and missiles over Ukraine on the night of October 26. Air defense systems shot down 44 kamikaze drones, according to the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Air Force.
"On the night of October 26, the enemy attacked Ukraine with various types of missiles, Shahed strike UAVs, and drones of unidentified type," the report says.
The Ukrainian Air Force's radar troops detected and tracked 98 enemy aerial targets:
- 3 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles (launched from Crimea)
- 2 guided Kh-59 missiles (from Bryansk airspace)
- 2 unidentified missiles (from Belgorod region)
- 91 enemy drones (launched from Kursk and Orel regions)
The attack was countered by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare divisions, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The missiles targeted civilian infrastructure in Sumy and Dnipro.
Air defense performance
As of noon, 44 enemy drones were confirmed shot down in the Kirovohrad, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Kursk regions.
One drone exited Ukrainian airspace towards Belarus, while 44 Russian UAVs lost contact, with one remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
Russian strikes across Ukraine
Russian forces launched renewed attacks overnight on October 26. Starting on the evening of October 25, they hit Dnipro, where four people were killed and 20 were injured. The attack also damaged Mechnikov Hospital.
A drone strike on Kyiv injured six people and killed a teenage girl. In the Kyiv region, where air defense intercepted attacks on the capital, a child was injured, and one fatality was reported.
In Khmelnytskyi, the attack caused power outages. Several communities in the Khmelnytskyi district remain partially without electricity.
