Currently, the debris from the Tripillya TPP is being dismantled. Heavy concrete structures need to be dismantled before the damage can be assessed, according to Andrii Hota, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Centrenergo private joint-stock company.

Electricity supply restrictions

According to Hota, the situation in the power system is currently stable despite the destruction of the thermal power plant.

"I hope that Kyiv residents will not feel the consequences today. But this is a question not only for us but for the entire Ukrainian energy system. As of today, I have information that the situation is stable," he adds.

Complete generation loss

"This is thermal generation, this is maneuverable generation. That is, we will feel it in the peaks of electricity consumption," says the Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

He notes that maneuverable generation operates during peak hours and meets demand at times when other generators cannot.

"Not wind, not solar, not hydro, but heat generation can do it. Unfortunately, today it can't do it anymore," Gota says.

Timeframe for TPP restoration

Hota says that there is a timeframe for the plant's restoration. He notes that in August 2023, the team had a similar situation. At that time, the units were not destroyed, but they were shut down and unable to operate.

"And in a few months, we were already entering the winter with almost maximum capacity. Therefore, we know how to restore from scratch and the approximate timeframe. But I can't name these terms for objective reasons," he explains.

Russian attack on Ukraine on night of April 11

That night, Russians once again launched a combined attack on Ukraine. The main target was the Lviv region.

In total, Russia used 82 means of air attack, including dozens of missiles and 40 attack UAVs.

A total of 57 air targets were destroyed by Ukrainian Air Defense Forces:

  • 16 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles;
  • 39 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs;
  • 2 Kh-59 guided missiles.

Among other things, during the massive attack, Russians completely destroyed the Trypillia thermal power plant located in Kyiv region.
