Russians attack Odesa with drones overnight: Sanatorium and buildings damaged
Last night, on March 5, Russian troops attacked Odesa and the region with kamikaze drones. The attack damaged a sanatorium, as well as a house and several outbuildings, according to the Southern Ukrainian Defense Forces.
"At night, the enemy again insidiously attacked with Shahed-131/136 attack drones. The repetition of criminal tactics of maneuvers over residential and industrial areas of Odesa and the suburbs posed a real threat to civilians, complicating the work of air defense," the Southern Ukrainian Defense Forces says in a statement.
Air Defense Forces shot down 18 attack drones. One of the drones hit a recreational facility in Odesa district and damaged the buildings. There was a fire, but it was quickly extinguished. The recreation center has not been functioning since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
A private house with a pier and outbuildings was also damaged in the recreational area. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.
Russian strikes in Odesa
Since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the occupiers have been regularly striking Odesa.
Thus, on the night of March 2, Russians attacked Odesa and the region with drones. As a result of the attack, a Russian drone hit one of Odesa's high-rise buildings, destroying 18 apartments. Rescuers worked for two days to clear the rubble. In total, 20 people died as a result of the attack.
In particular, a military family with a 7-month-old daughter was killed in the Russian attack on Odesa. In addition, the bodies of a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl were found under the rubble of a house in Odesa. They were brother and sister.
As the Lithuanian Foreign Minister stated, the Russian attack on Odesa was a horrible murder of Ukrainians. There should be immediate consequences for Russia, he emphasized.
