Russian troops attempting to advance in Kurakhove direction - General Staff

Since the beginning of the day on October 16, there have been 97 combat clashes on the front line. The enemy is most active in the Kurakhove direction, where they carried out nearly half of all attacks, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
According to the General Staff, the invaders are using aviation and artillery, targeting the border areas of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
In particular, the districts of Pokrovka and Karpovychi were hit by artillery fire. The aggressor also launched airstrikes near Budivelnyi.
Additionally, today, Russian aviation carried out seven strikes on the Kursk region, dropping nine guided aerial bombs.
Situation in the directions
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops launched four assaults on our positions near Starytsia. The situation is under control.
The enemy attacked our positions seven times in the Kupiansk direction: near Kucherivka, Pishchane, Stepova Novoselivka, Lozova, and Vyshneve. Two attacks were repelled by the Defense Forces, and five clashes are still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked in the areas of Hrekivka, Nevske, Terny, and Torske. There have been ten clashes in this area since the start of the day, with fighting still ongoing near Hrekivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled the enemy’s advance near Stupochky. Enemy aviation carried out strikes with unguided air missiles on Chasiv Yar.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked near Toretsk. The aggressor’s aviation bombed Toretsk and Katerynivka, also, the enemy shelled Druzhba with unguided air missiles.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russia has made eight attempts since the start of the day to push our defenders from their positions in the areas of Promin and Selydove. The Defense Forces are holding the line and have repelled five enemy attacks, with three clashes still ongoing.
The hottest area today is the Kurakhove direction, where the invaders attacked our units 42 times since the start of the day. They are trying to advance near Zoriane, Zhelanne Druhe, Izmailivka, Novodmytrivka, Hirnyk, Novoselydivka, Heorhiivka, and Katerynivka. Sixteen attacks have been repelled by the Defense Forces, and the fighting is ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, one enemy assault was repelled, and there is currently fighting near Zolota Nyva. Russian unguided air missiles exploded near Novodarivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, fighting is taking place near Mala Tokmachka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian units repelled three attacks on our positions.
"There are no significant changes in other directions," the General Staff added.
Frontline situation and Russian losses
According to the General Staff, during the past day, October 15, there were 171 combat clashes on the front lines. The Kupiansk direction made it into the top three for the number of attacks, even surpassing the Pokrovsk direction.
As of October 16, Russian military losses amounted to 1,450 soldiers. Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army has lost nearly 673,000 soldiers.
Yesterday, Ukrainian forces also destroyed 9 tanks, 30 armored combat vehicles, 29 artillery systems, and other enemy equipment.
