Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of October 16

On October 15, 171 combat engagements took place at the front. The KupIansk sector was among the top three in terms of the number of Russian attacks, outstripping even the Pokrovsk sector, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“In the Kupiansk sector, 28 Russian attacks took place over the last day. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled Russian assaults near Kucherivka, Novoosynove, Hrushivka, Pishchane, Hlushkivka, Lozova, Kruhliakivka, Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, and Vyshneve,” the statement says.
In turn, in the Pokrovsk sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped 26 assault and offensive actions of the aggressor towards Novotroitske, Myroliubivka, Promin, Krasnyi Yar, and Krutyi Yar.
“The highest concentration of enemy attacks was near the village of Selydove,” the Ukraine's General Staff notes.
Russia attacked the most in the Kurakhove sector. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 40 Russian attacks there.
“The Russian occupants were most actively trying to advance in the areas of Novodmytrivka and Heorhiivka. In addition, Russia attacked in the direction of Kreminna Balka, Tsukuryno, Novoselydivka, Kostiantynivka, Antonivka, and Katerynivka,” the military notes.
Sectors
In the Kharkiv sector, Russia attacked 11 times in the areas of Vovchansk and Starytsia.
In the Lyman sector, Russians attacked 16 times. They tried to break into the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense near Hrekivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Zarichne, and Torske.
In the Kramatorsk sector, the Russian occupants attacked three times in the areas of Kalynivka, Stupochky, and Predtechyno.
In the Toretsk sector, Russia, with the support of aviation, carried out 9 attacks near Toretsk, Dachne, and Shcherbynivka.
In the Vremivka sector, Russia conducted 2 assaults on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Rozdolne and Bohoiavlenka. Russia actively used attack and bomber aircraft to attack the area.
In the Orikhiv sector, the Russian occupants attacked in the direction of Mala Tokmachka.
In the Prydniprovskyi sector, the Russian invaders tried 5 times to force Ukrainian units out of their positions. They received a tough rebuff and suffered losses.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of Russian offensive groups were detected.
On the border with Chernihiv and Sumy regions, Russia is actively using artillery and aviation in the vicinity of Ukrainian settlements from the territory of Russia.
The operation in the Kursk region continues. Russian aircraft continue to strike with guided aerial bombs on Ukrainian territory. Currently, there are 16 air strikes involving 23 guided missiles and Russia has fired 191 artillery rounds.
Russian losses in Ukraine
As of October 16, Russian losses amounted to 1,450 soldiers. Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost almost 673,000 soldiers.
Ukrainian soldiers also neutralized 9 Russian tanks, 30 armored combat vehicles, 29 artillery systems, 31 operational and tactical UAVs, and 78 vehicles.
In addition, the aviation, missile, and artillery forces of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck 20 areas of concentration of Russian personnel, weapons, and military equipment, in addition to a UAV ground station, an artillery system, and a field ammunition depot.
