Russian missile strike ignites fire in Kyiv, woman hurt in attack

On the night of August 16, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv due to the threat of ballistic missiles. A non-residential building caught fire in the Obolonskyi district, with one person injured.

The air raid alert in Kyiv was declared due to the threat of ballistic missiles — residents of the capital were urged to immediately proceed to shelters and remain there until the alert ended.
Shortly afterward, the first consequences of the attack became known: a non-residential building caught fire in the Obolonskyi district.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko provided further details: in the Obolonskyi district, falling debris caused fires in non-residential premises at two separate addresses, with several vehicles catching fire near one of them. Another fire was recorded in the Holosiivskyi district, where a non-residential area is burning.
As of 03:35 Kyiv time, one injured person had been reported. Emergency services continue to work on managing the aftermath of the enemy attack.

The State Emergency Service has provided updated details on the aftermath of the overnight attack on Kyiv — according to official data, two people have been injured.
A large fire broke out on the premises of a market in the Obolonskyi district, where the casualties were recorded. At another address in the same district, the blast wave caused minor damage to a building without fire. At yet another location, debris struck a non-residential building.

This attack followed a large-scale nighttime strike on several regions of Ukraine. At the same time, media reported explosions in Poltava and Dnipro, while Kryvyi Rih came under a combined attack involving ballistic missiles and drones.
Earlier, on August 12, RBC-Ukraine reported that the Kremlin had shifted its aerial attack tactics, stepping up the use of ballistic missiles and Banderol jet drones — likely seeking to exploit a temporary window of opportunity. On the night of August 11, powerful explosions were already heard in Kyiv during another ballistic attack on the capital.
