Russian missile hits Shostka in Ukraine's Sumy region: What's known so far

On the evening of Tuesday, May 20, the Russian Federation carried out a missile strike on Ukraine's Sumy region. The city of Shostka was hit, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
"Russian forces launched a missile strike on the Shostka community. Infrastructure at one of the local enterprises was damaged. Emergency rescue operations are underway," the statement said.
The consequences of the strike are currently being assessed.
Shortly before the explosions in Shostka, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had warned of a potential missile threat in the Sumy region.
"Missile over Sumy region," the Air Force reported at the time.
For reference, one of the most massive attacks on Shostka occurred on the morning of December 31 last year, when Russian forces launched 13 missiles at the city.
Attack on Sumy region
During the night of Tuesday, May 20, the Russian army attacked the Bilopillia and Yunakivka communities in the Sumy region using drones and aerial bombs. A large fire broke out at one of the civilian facilities.
According to police reports, Russian forces struck the town of Bilopillia. As a result of the shelling, a government building and several market pavilions caught fire.
