Russian jet-powered drone crashes near Polish border - Sources

Initially, monitoring Telegram channels reported that a Russian drone was approaching the Yahodyn checkpoint. The Ukrainian Air Force said that an enemy drone had been detected in the Volyn region and was flying toward the border with Poland.

According to the source, the Russian drone did not hit the Yahodyn checkpoint.

Meanwhile, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces warned that Polish combat aircraft had been scrambled due to the Russian attack on western regions of Ukraine.

"Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have been placed on alert," the Polish military said.

An air raid alert was also sounded in the Lublin Voivodeship.

Head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration Roman Romaniuk said that the drone crashed in the village of Starovoitove in Kovel district.

"The blast wave damaged the premises of the checkpoint (Yahodyn – ed.) at the entrance to the terminal. No reports of injuries or deaths have been received," he added.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the strike occurred approximately 2 kilometers from the Ukrainian-Polish border.

According to him, the drone did not violate Polish airspace.

Attacks on checkpoints

On September 10, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that his country expected Russian attacks on checkpoints along the border with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, on September 24, the Polish prime minister said that people had been evacuated from the Dorohusk and Zosin border checkpoints because Russian forces had carried out missile strikes on facilities located near the Ukrainian-Polish border.

Russian forces had previously attacked checkpoints on Ukraine’s border with Moldova. In particular, the Starokozache international checkpoint was targeted by the enemy.
