Russian drones hit Brovary high-rise, fire reported
Russia launched another drone attack on Ukraine overnight on December 22. Fragments from one of the drones fell on a building in Brovary, Kyiv region, according to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration and local social media accounts.
According to local sources, a Russian drone struck a high-rise building. Some reports claimed the UAV merely grazed the roof instead of crashing directly into it. A fire broke out afterward. Videos shared online show flames on the roof.
Meanwhile, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration denied the reports and clarified that the debris of a downed drone caused the fire.
“In one of the settlements in the region, debris from a downed enemy target caused a fire on the roof of a 25-story residential building,” said Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
He added that there were no reports of casualties. Emergency services are currently evacuating people and working to address the aftermath of the attack. The fire has already been contained.
Kravchenko also noted that more detailed information will be provided later.
Later, at 1:21 AM Kyiv time, Brovary Mayor Ihor Sapozhko informed, "Today, at approximately 00:45, a drone attack caused a fire on the roof of a high-rise building in Brovary."
He added that emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and localized the fire. In addition, residents of the building were evacuated.
No information about casualties has been reported. Sapozhko also informed that further details would be provided later.
Notably, on the night of Friday, Russia launched drone and missile attacks on Ukraine. Specifically, the enemy fired five Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles directly at Kyiv.
Air defense forces destroyed all five missiles. However, the falling debris caused destruction in the capital. Read more about what happened in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv in RBC-Ukraine's article.
