Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of November 20

Over the course of November 19, the 1,366th day of the war, Russian forces attempted to attack Ukraine's Defense Forces 200 times. The enemy was most active in the Pokrovsk direction, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
According to the General Staff, Russian forces carried out two massive missile strikes on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and on civilian cities, using 57 missiles. Russian forces also conducted 57 airstrikes, dropping 124 guided aerial bombs, carried out 4,442 attacks (including 218 using multiple launch rocket systems), and used 3,885 loitering munitions.
Russian forces bombed areas near the settlements of Velykomykhailivka in Dnipropetrovsk region, as well as Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Novodanilivka, and Plavni in Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian forces, for their part, struck one enemy concentration area and one important site belonging to Russian forces.
Situation by direction
Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions: Russian forces dropped 13 guided aerial bombs and carried out 160 attacks. No assault attempts were recorded.
Southern Slobozhanskyi direction: 11 attempts to storm positions by Russian forces near the settlements of Vovchansk, Synelnykove, Kamianka, Kutkivka, and in the direction of Kolodiazne and Dvorichanske.
Kupiansk direction: Five enemy attacks during the day; Ukrainian forces repelled attacks near the settlements of Petropavlivka and Pishchane, and in the directions of Novosynove and Shyikivka.
Lyman direction: Russian forces attempted to advance near the settlements of Nadiia, Druzhelyubivka, Novyi Myr, Karpivka, Stavky, Zarichne, Drobyshove, Shandryholove, Zelena Dolyna, Novoselivka, as well as toward Oleksandrivka, Lyman, and Shyikivka. A total of 17 enemy attacks were recorded.
Sloviansk direction: 13 attacks by Russian forces in the areas of Yampil, Zakitne, Verkhnokamianske, Serebrianka, Dibrova, Dronivka, Siversk, Vyiimka, and Fedorivka.
Kramatorsk direction: Eight enemy attacks near Vasiukivka, Minkivka, Virolubivka, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, and in the direction of Bilokuzmynivka.
Kostiantynivka direction: 25 attacks by Russian forces in the areas of Bila Hora, Kostiantynivka, Shcherbynivka, Toretsk, Pleshchiivka, Rusyn Yar, Novoolelivka, Stepanivka, and Sofiivka.
Pokrovsk direction: Currently, the most difficult and most active. Ukrainian forces stopped 55 attacks by Russian forces near the settlements of Shakhove, Nove Shakhove, Pankivka, Nykanorivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Novoeconomichne, Rivne, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Molodetske, Balahan, Udachne, Novopavlivka, Novomykolaivka, Filiia, Dachne, and in the direction of Hryshyne.
Oleksandrivka direction: Russian forces attempted 12 assaults on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of Oleksandrohrad, Vorone, Sosnivka, Verbove, Zlahoda, Pryvilne, Yehorivka, and Krasnohirke.
Huliaipole direction: 11 Russian attacks were stopped in the areas of Rivnopillia and Zelenyi Hai, and in the direction of Zatyshshia and Zelene.
Orikhiv direction: Four attempts to attack Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Novoandriivka, Stepove, and Prymorske.
Prydniprovia direction: No offensive actions by Russian forces were observed.
According to the General Staff, as of November 20, 2025, Ukraine continues to record significant losses among Russian forces during the full-scale invasion, including personnel, armored vehicles, and aircraft.
From February 24, 2022, to November 20, 2025, the estimated losses of Russian forces amount to approximately 1,162,120 personnel. In particular, on November 19, 890 personnel of the Russian military were eliminated.
