Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 18

Ukrainian military forces continue to advance on the Melitopol and Berdyansk fronts, repelling an enemy attack near Urozhaine and destroying two enemy command posts, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian shelling
Over the past day, the enemy carried out 1 rocket and 31 aviation strikes, conducting 45 artillery attacks with multiple launch rocket systems on our troops' positions and populated areas.
Unfortunately, due to the Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered damage.
The likelihood of missile and aerial strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
Frontline situation
Over the past day, there were 30 skirmishes in various regions.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Chervona Zoria and Veterynarne in the Kharkiv region.
The adversary carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 20 populated areas, including Yeline, Leonivka, Vilchyky in the Chernihiv region; Rozhkovychi, Iskryskivshchyna, Turia, Pokrovka, Riasne in the Sumy region, and Chervona Zoria, Hatyshche, Vovchanski Khutory, Budarky in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted offensive actions near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region. They conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Kyslivka and Berestove in the Kharkiv region.
Enemy artillery and mortar shelling affected more than 10 populated areas, including Kamyanka, Krasne Pershe, Masyutivka, Kyslivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the adversary unsuccessfully attempted offensive actions near Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region. They carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Bilyhorivka in the Luhansk region and Spirne in the Donetsk region.
Enemy artillery shelling impacted about 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Chervonopopivka in the Luhansk region, and Verkhniokamianske, Sviato-Pokrovske, Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted offensive actions near Orikhovo-Vasylivka in the Donetsk region. They conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
More than 15 populated areas suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including Minkivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Klyshchiivka, Shcherbynivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted offensive actions southeast and east of Novokalynove in the Donetsk region.
More than 10 populated areas were subjected to artillery shelling, including Keramik, Stepove, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Netaylove in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, Defense Forces continue to repel the Russian troops' advance in the areas of Maryinka and Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region.
The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the area of Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region. Populated areas like Krasnohorivka, Pobiieda, Kostiantynivka, Halytsynivka, Katerinivka in the Donetsk region were hit by artillery shelling.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost positions near Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. They carried out aviation strikes in the area of Staromaiorske.
More than 10 populated areas were impacted by artillery shelling, including Vodiane, Bohoiavlenka, Zolota Niva, Blahodatne, Staromaiorske, Rivnopil in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the area of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Over 15 populated areas suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including Novodarivka, Malinivka, Huliaypole, Charivne, Mali Shcherbaky, Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, over 10 populated areas were impacted by enemy artillery shelling, including Zolota Balka, Respublikanets, Odradokamianka, Veletenske, Novodmytrivka, Sofiivka in the Kherson region and Lupareve in the Mykolaiv region.
Advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Simultaneously, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions. They consolidate their positions at achieved frontlines and conduct counter-battery measures.
Enemy losses
During the day, the defense aviation delivered 9 strikes on areas of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentration.
Rocket forces and artillery units struck 2 areas of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentration, neutralizing 4 artillery units in firing positions, 2 command posts, and 2 radio-electronic warfare stations of the enemy.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the invasion began amounts to 256,510 military personnel.
