On the night of July 11, Russia attacked Ukraine with ballistic and guided aerial missiles and 121 attack drones. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down most of the Russian targets, but some did hit their marks, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Last night, Russia attacked Ukraine with:
- 6 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles from the Bryansk region of Russia
- 4 Kh-59/69 guided air-to-ground missiles from the airspace of the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea
- 2 Kh-31 anti-radar missiles from the Black Sea
- 121 strike drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types, as well as Parodiya decoy drones, from the directions of Kursk, Millerovo, Orel, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia; the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk region; and Hvardiiske and Chauda in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea.
According to preliminary data, as of 8:30 a.m. Kyiv time, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down or neutralized 2 Kh-59/69 guided air-to-ground missiles and 111 Russian drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types in the north, south, and east of Ukraine.
Russian ballistic missiles, 2 guided air-to-ground missiles, and 7 attack drones were recorded striking 11 locations, and debris from downed targets was found at three locations.
Information regarding two anti-radar missiles is being verified; no reports of damage or casualties have been received.
"Russian attack is ongoing; there are several Russian drones in the airspace. Follow safety guidelines!" Ukrainian Air Force warns.
Russian attack on Kyiv and anti-ballistic missile shortage
On the night of July 11, Russian forces once again launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Hits were recorded in several districts of the capital; 10 people were injured, including a child.
Ukraine is facing a shortage of missiles for air defense systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. As a result, the Patriot systems had to be switched from automatic to manual mode.
During Russia's attacks in June, Ukraine destroyed the vast majority of the Russian attack drones. However, the interception rate for ballistic missiles dropped to 40%.
Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 89% of aerial targets during the massive Russian attacks.
In total, Russia launched nearly 6,000 drones and missiles at Ukraine over the course of the month. Ukrainian forces destroyed nearly 5,300 of them.
Ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge. Intercepting them requires a significant number of RAS-3 missiles for the Patriot air defense systems.
