The IAEA reports that Russia's military actions have damaged substations that are important for Ukraine's nuclear safety.

Early this morning, the IAEA received information about military activities in Ukraine that resulted in damage to substations critical to nuclear safety and security.

Following this, IAEA teams at the South Ukraine NPP and Khmelnitskyi NPP reported that each of the power plants had lost access to one of its external power lines.

In addition, the IAEA team at the Rivne NPP reported that the plant had reduced the power of two of its four units at the request of the grid operator. The Khmelnitskyi NPP team also had to stay in a hotel for several hours this morning.

"The dangers to nuclear safety continue to be very real and ever-present," said Secretary General Grossi.

He also reiterated his call for maximum military restraint in the vicinity of nuclear facilities and full respect for the seven essential pillars of nuclear safety and security.

Russia's nuclear threats

A few days ago, Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov said that on October 21, Russia allegedly conducted successful tests of the Burevestnik missile.

This missile has another name - flying Chernobyl. And the only ones it kills so far are Russian military personnel and specialists.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin also said that Russia had allegedly successfully tested the Poseidon underwater nuclear drone.

In response, US President Donald Trump said that he had instructed the Pentagon to immediately begin testing American nuclear weapons.

Explaining the order, Trump added that if other countries are conducting tests, then the US also has the right to do so.
