Russia struck a critical infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhia, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.

"Russia attacked an industrial infrastructure facility. There were no casualties," the report stated at 6:03 a.m. Kyiv time.

Ivan Fedorov did not specify when Russia attacked. However, starting at noon, that is, from the moment the ceasefire announced by Ukraine took effect, alarms were sounded twice in the Zaporizhzhia region due to the threat of Russian drones and guided aerial bombs, and explosions were heard.

Moreover, the launches of Russian guided aerial bombs around 5 a.m. were officially recorded by the Ukrainian Air Force. Therefore, the city was likely attacked while the ceasefire was in effect.

Despite the ceasefire initiated by Ukraine, air raid alerts continued overnight in frontline regions. Although sightings of drones and guided aerial bombs were indeed less frequent than on other days.

Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

Last week, a phone call took place between Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, during which Putin stated his readiness to declare a ceasefire with Ukraine for the duration of the so-called Victory Day celebrations.

Early this week, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially announced that Putin had ordered a halt to hostilities on May 8 and 9.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed not waiting for those dates and initiating a ceasefire on the night of May 5–6. At the same time, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that this was Kyiv’s genuine proposal to end the war, and that this day would show whether Russia wanted the same.
