On the night of December 4, Russia attacked an energy facility in the Odesa region. There is significant damage, with 51,800 consumers without power, according to DTEK and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
"Russia attacked a DTEK energy facility at night. 9,500 families were reconnected using backup schemes. Another 51,800 are temporarily without power," the company says.
DTEK notes that the damage is significant. Repairs will take time. Energy workers are already working hard to restore power as quickly as possible.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, as a result of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, as of this morning, over 60,000 consumers in the Donetsk region, more than 51,000 in the Odesa region, and 1,600 consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk region are without power. Emergency repair work is ongoing.
Today, hourly power cuts and power restrictions are in effect for industrial consumers and businesses in all regions of Ukraine.
Ukrainians are urged to use electricity wisely throughout the day, particularly during peak consumption hours in the morning and evening. This helps to reduce the load on the system.
Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy sector
Since the beginning of fall, Russia has been regularly shelling Ukraine's energy infrastructure. According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, all large thermal and hydroelectric power plants in the country have been damaged.
According to the head of Ukrenergo, Vitalii Zaichenko, the most difficult situation with electricity is currently in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa regions. Russians are constantly striking energy facilities there.
The Russians are also attempting to cut off Kyiv and the surrounding region from electricity. On the night of November 29, the enemy attacked the region's energy infrastructure with drones and missiles. As a result of the Russian attack, over 600,000 customers in Kyiv and the surrounding region were left without power.
Today, December 4, electricity consumption restrictions remain in place in Ukraine. Between 0.5 and 3 groups of consumers will be disconnected simultaneously throughout the day.
