Frontline situation
Russian forces have likely launched a spring-summer offensive against Ukraine's Fortress Belt in Donetsk, with the heaviest pressure focused on the Lyman direction, according to the Institute for the Study of War. Large-scale assaults involving hundreds of troops and armored vehicles signal a shift in Russian tactics, alongside intensified drone and air strikes to weaken Ukrainian defenses. Despite the escalation, analysts say Russia is unlikely to capture the entire defensive line in 2026, as Ukrainian forces continue to inflict heavy losses.
Meanwhile, Russian forces in the Kharkiv direction are regrouping and preparing new offensive attempts across several sectors, including Kupiansk and Velykyi Burluk. Despite recent setbacks, Russian troops remain active and are trying to resume advances after failed attacks in recent days.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces destroyed Russian Buk air defense systems and struck multiple key targets, including troop concentrations, command posts, and logistics hubs across several sectors, the General Staff reported. Additional strikes targeted positions in Bryansk, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Belgorod regions, with enemy losses still being clarified.
