Russia's attack on Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa hits homes, hotels, and playground, leaving casualties: Latest update

Over the past 24 hours, Russia attacked Ukraine with hundreds of aerial targets, including drones and missiles. Hits were recorded at 26 locations, with fatalities and injuries reported in several cities. The most significant destruction was seen in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa.
RBC-Ukraine has compiled the consequences of the large-scale combined Russian attack in its report.
Key points:
- Across Ukraine: A total of 703 aerial targets were launched (44 missiles and 659 drones). 667 were destroyed or suppressed; impacts were recorded at 26 locations.
- Kyiv: 4 killed (including a child), 60 injured; dozens of residential buildings and civilian facilities damaged. The heaviest destruction was in the Podilskyi and Obolonskyi districts.
- Dnipro and region: 3 killed, 34 injured; destruction in the city, with strikes also hitting communities. Some victims are in serious condition.
- Odesa: At least 9 killed, 16 injured; severe damage to housing and infrastructure, fires, and destroyed apartments.
- Kharkiv: 2 injured; impacts in several districts, with damage to buildings, vehicles, and the gas network.
- Poltava region: Residential buildings in two districts were damaged by falling debris.
- Cherkasy region: air defense intercepted missiles and drones; industrial infrastructure was damaged by debris.
What Russia used to attack Ukraine for over 24 hours
During the period from 07:00 AM on April 15 to 07:00 AM Kyiv time on April 16, the enemy launched 703 aerial targets against Ukraine: 44 missiles and 659 drones.
A total of 667 targets were shot down or suppressed (31 missiles and 636 drones), including:
- 19 out of 20 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 8 out of 19 Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles;
- 4 out of 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles;
- 636 out of 659 UAVs (Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and others).
There were confirmed impacts of 12 missiles and 20 drones across 26 locations, with debris falling at 25 locations. One missile impact is still being clarified. The attack is ongoing.
Kyiv
In Kyiv, a total of 17 apartment buildings and 10 private houses were damaged, as well as a hotel, office center, car dealership, gas station, and shopping mall.

The Podilskyi and Obolonskyi districts were the hardest hit by the attack.

In the capital, 4 people were killed (including a 12-year-old child and a child in the Podilskyi district; two more people were killed in the Obolonskyi district, both security guards at a car dealership).

In total, 58 people were injured (including two foreign nationals). 26 victims were hospitalized, while others received on-site medical assistance.

Among the injured are also 4 paramedics and 2 police officers who were on their way to provide assistance.

Consequences by district
- Obolonskyi district: 2 killed, 6 injured. Cars burned; a warehouse, tire service, and shop were damaged.
- Podilskyi district: 2 bodies (including a 12-year-old child) were recovered from under the rubble of a residential building. A Shahed drone hit an 18-story building. Facades of two hotels and nearby residential buildings were damaged; residents were trapped in one of the buildings due to blocked doors. A mother and child were rescued from the rubble. Ten people were evacuated from a 16-story building.
- Desnianskyi district: Fire broke out in a two-story building.
- Shevchenkivskyi district: Impact near a playground and a residential building.
By morning, the city was heavily covered in smoke.

Update 11:46 AM. As of this hour, 60 people have been injured in Kyiv as a result of the attack.
11:21 AM. The enemy destroyed an ambulance in Kyiv that had arrived at the scene to provide assistance to those injured in the attack.
When the medical team arrived, a second strike occurred at that moment. The medical staff and driver sustained moderate injuries and were hospitalized.
Dnipro and region
A total of 3 people were killed, and 34 were injured. The attacks were carried out using drones, artillery, and missiles.

Dnipro: 2 killed, 30 injured. Office and administrative buildings, residential homes, an industrial facility, and vehicles were damaged.

Novooleksandrivka community: a 14-year-old girl was injured (moderate condition); a private house was damaged.
Nikopol district: a 37-year-old man was killed in Nikopol and nearby communities; three people were injured (two in serious condition). An apartment building and vehicles were damaged.
Update 11:27 AM. The death toll from the overnight Russian attack on Dnipro has risen to three
Odesa
Odesa suffered the highest number of fatalities, with at least 8 people killed and 16 injured. The city endured several waves of missile and drone strikes.
In the morning, the occupying forces struck a multi-storey residential building.

As a result of the impact, a fire broke out, with significant destruction reported. Some apartments were completely destroyed.

In addition, the overnight attack damaged residential buildings, port facilities, critical infrastructure, and warehouse premises. The blast wave shattered windows in three five-storey dormitories.
Khadzhybeiskyi district: infrastructure and a residential building were damaged; more than 300 windows were shattered.
Primorskyi district: damage was reported in one of the parks.
Update: In Odesa, the death toll has risen to 9. A day of mourning has been declared in the city.
Kharkiv
2 people were injured. Impacts were recorded in three districts.
- Industrialnyi district: a passenger car caught fire.
- Nemyshlianskyi district: an impact on a roadway damaged the windows of five private houses and the gas network. Two people sought medical assistance.
- Saltivskyi district: a drone hit a garden area, causing a fire in an outbuilding; windows in an apartment building were damaged.
Poltava region
In the Kremenchuk district, debris damaged the roof of a residential building.
In the Poltava district, the roof and windows of a two-storey house were damaged. No casualties were reported.
Cherkasy region
Air defense forces neutralized 4 Russian missiles and 30 drones in the region.
As a result of falling debris and blast waves, industrial infrastructure was affected; inspections are ongoing. In one case, a fire broke out and was extinguished. No casualties were reported.
Kyiv region
In Bila Tserkva, production facilities of an enterprise and a private house were damaged as a result of the massive attack.
Additionally, in the Brovary district of the Kyiv region, 4 private houses, outbuildings, and a car were damaged.
All emergency services are currently on site.
Consequences of the attack
Due to strikes on energy infrastructure, some consumers in several Ukrainian regions were left without electricity, including the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Poltava regions.
At the same time, no scheduled power outages are expected today, but residents are urged to use electricity sparingly in the evening to reduce pressure on the grid.
Later, President Zelenskyy reacted to the deadly night Russian attack and stated that Russia should not expect any easing of sanctions and that international pressure must be further increased.
He also stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of agreements with partners, particularly regarding the supply of missiles for Patriot air defense systems and other weapons to defend Ukraine.
On the night of April 15, a Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia killed a woman.
The evening before, on April 14, ahead of a massive attack on Cherkasy, a strike drone hit a playground, killing an 8-year-old boy.
On the same day, during a daytime missile attack on Dnipro, five people were killed.
