Russia rejects temporary ceasefire with Ukraine

The Russian side is allegedly interested in achieving "lasting peace" in Ukraine, rather than a temporary ceasefire, which "will achieve nothing," says Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for Putin.
According to the Kremlin representative, Putin has allegedly always advocated for "peace forever" rather than any pause in hostilities.
"Putin and the Russian side have always stated that we are in favor of a lasting peace—peace forever—rather than a ceasefire, which, in essence, will achieve nothing," he notes.
Peskov also states that the Ukrainian side is well aware of the conditions for ending the conflict.
According to him, Kyiv allegedly understands exactly what decisions and responsibilities are necessary to set out on the path to lasting peace.
Peskov recently stated that the Kremlin was counting on a new trilateral meeting involving Ukraine and the United States. He said the possibility of such talks had already been discussed with US representatives.
In addition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow saw a "positive signal" in the US approach to the peace process. He said the Kremlin appreciated that Washington was "taking into account the realities on the ground."
Lavrov also expressed Russia's readiness for a new round of negotiations on Ukraine. He added that Moscow "had something to say" and that Russia had allegedly never refused to engage in dialogue.
Peskov stated that Moscow was ready to resume consultations in a trilateral format. At the same time, he added that no progress had been made on this front so far.
