Russia needs 3–4 years to rearm for its next war – Ukraine's Defense Minister

Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal believes that after signing a peace agreement, Russia will spend 3-4 years rearming and preparing for another war, The Times reports.
Shmyhal emphasizes that after the signing of any peace agreement between Russia and the West, a new arms race will begin.
"Russia would spend the next three to four years preparing for another war by rearming and significantly investing in defense," he said.
According to the Minister, to stop Russia's renewed invasion of Ukraine and its potential attack on Europe, the West must make a huge push in rearmament, which will be financed by billions of pounds sterling.
"We shouldn’t imagine this Armageddon scenario — we just should be ready," Shmyhal says.
Predictions for end of war
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance said he expected Russia's war against Ukraine to end within 3 to 6 months and clarified that Russia had changed its demands for ending the conflict.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also expressed his belief that the war should end soon.
US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff hopes that a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia can be reached by the end of the year.
At the same time, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed skepticism about a quick peace, noting that the conflict is unlikely to end in the near future and that only new sanctions can influence Russia.
