The West must show Russia that Moscow has no power to influence NATO or its member states, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says during the Vilnius summit of the Bucharest Nine and Nordic countries.

"We need as many points of connection as possible, including at the NATO Summit this June. One of the key principles of European security is that Russia must not have veto power over NATO decisions or influence over the allies or its members. That principle must remain in place. Euroaatlantic security is the business of Euroatlantic nations," Zelenskyy stated.

Ukrainian President added that Russia decided to go against Europe, and therefore Moscow has no place in shaping the future of the West, something that must be clearly demonstrated in June. In particular, Europe must not compromise its own security.

Ukraine-Russia negotiations on June 2

Today, June 2, the second round of negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations will take place in Istanbul. Representatives of the Russian side are expected to bring with them a so-called memorandum, a document outlining their vision of the conditions for ending the fighting.

On the eve of the meeting, June 1, Zelenskyy approved the composition of the Ukrainian delegation. As in the previous meeting, it will be headed by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

Meanwhile, members of the Ukrainian delegation have already met with representatives of Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom ahead of the talks with the Russian side.
