Russia moves S-400 systems from Kaliningrad to Ukraine - British intelligence
Russia has moved its strategic S-400 systems from Kaliningrad to the front in Ukraine. This happened after significant losses on the Russian side, reports the British Ministry of Defense.
According to British intelligence, Russia considers Kaliningrad to be one of its most strategically sensitive regions, in part because it is bordered on three sides by NATO member states.
Therefore, the relocation of S-400 systems from Kaliningrad is an important factor.
"The fact that the Russian Ministry of Defense appears willing to accept additional risk here highlights the overstretch the war has caused for some of Russia's key, modern capabilities," the report states.
Losses of the S-400
The S-400 system is considered the Russian equivalent of the U.S. Patriot system. In fact, it is a modernized version of the Soviet S-300.
The Dutch intelligence agency Oryx notes that the Ukrainian military has destroyed the S-400 at least 5 times, including command posts, launchers, and radars. This is an expensive loss for the occupiers.
As a reminder, on September 14, the Ukrainian counterintelligence and the Ukrainian Navy conducted a unique operation near occupied Yevpatoria. According to RBC-Ukraine sources, the defenders destroyed a Russian S-400 Triumph air defense system worth $1.2 billion.
