Russia intends to mobilize 170,000 more people for war in Ukraine, Britain at the UN
Fergus Eckersley, Political Coordinator of the British Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to draft another 170,000 people to fight against Ukraine, according to the British government.
During a speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Eckersley said that since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 300 thousand Russian army soldiers have been killed or wounded, which is many times more than during the ten years of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.
"President Putin now plans to conscript another 170 thousand, as cannon fodder for his government’s war. It is hard to see how it is in the interests of the Russian people that the Russian Government prolongs its aggression," he said.
The British representative urged to continue to provide Ukraine with all the support it needs to defend its sovereign territory.
Russia's losses during the war against Ukraine
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that as of Tuesday morning, December 12, the total number of Russian army casualties since the beginning of the invasion was 340,650.
The British Ministry of Defense stated that the average range of estimates of Russian army losses since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine is 320,000 killed and wounded. However, it is noted that even Moscow does not know the exact number.
