Russia attacks Ukraine with over 450 drones and dozens of missiles – Zelenskyy

Emergency response continues across Ukraine after a massive Russian strike on the country's energy infrastructure overnight on October 10, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports.
According to him, it was "a cynical and calculated attack" involving more than 450 drones and over three dozen missiles, aimed at facilities that ensure the everyday life of Ukrainians.
"As of now, more than 20 people are known to have been injured across the country — all are receiving the necessary assistance. Unfortunately, a child was killed in Zaporizhzhia as a result of the attack. My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones," the head of state said.
Zelenskyy reported that work is underway in Kyiv to restore the electricity and water supply. Power outages have been recorded in the Kyiv, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Odesa regions, as well as in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Recovery efforts are ongoing in Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, and Kherson regions.
The president emphasized that all necessary services are on the ground and that rescuers are mitigating the consequences of the strikes.
"I receive regular reports from the Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba, the Minister of Energy, Svitlana Grynchuk, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, and local authorities. Maximum efficiency of officials at all levels is required," he stressed.
Zelenskyy noted that before the start of the heating season, Russia deliberately strikes Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure. He called on international partners to act decisively — to strengthen the supply of air defense systems and impose new sanctions against Russia.
"We need not empty words but decisive actions — from the United States, Europe, and the G7. We expect a response to this brutality from the G20 and from all who speak about peace but refrain from real steps. The world can defend itself from these crimes, and this will contribute to global security," the president concluded.
Attack on October 10
In the early hours of Friday, October 10, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using strike drones and missiles of various types. As a result of the attack on the capital, nine people were injured. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that, due to enemy strikes, the city's left bank was completely without electricity.
Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia also came under attack — fires broke out there as a result, and there are civilian casualties. According to preliminary data, the main targets of the Russian attacks were energy infrastructure facilities.
