Russia attacks critical infrastructure energy facilities in Sumy region - Military Administration
The Russian army launched airstrikes this night on energy facilities of critical infrastructure in the Sumy region. The energy sector in the Konotop district was affected, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration on Telegram.
It is noted that the enemy used Iranian-made kamikaze drones of the Shahed type for these attacks.
"Today, October 28, the enemy launched an airstrike on the energy facilities of critical infrastructure in the Konotop district, using Shahed-type UAVs," the Regional Military Administration stated.
The administration clarified that emergency services are currently addressing the consequences of the shelling, and emergency recovery works are ongoing.
"All necessary services are working on-site. Recovery operations are being conducted," the Regional Military Administration reported.
Air defense operations in the Sumy region
Regarding the repulsion of air attacks last night, the Ground Forces and Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully shot down six Russian Shahed drones.
"In total, since the beginning of the year, our air defense units have downed 406 Russian drones," reported the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in Sumy region
Recently, Russian forces have been regularly targeting energy facilities in the Sumy region, striking at various locations.
For example, just last night, on October 27, the Russian army attacked energy facilities in the Romny district of Sumy region.
Additionally, during the night of October 27, the city of Sumy experienced power outages following a Russian Shahed drone attack.
It was also reported that on October 21, the enemy conducted airstrikes on critical infrastructure in the Romny district, resulting in several localities losing electricity.
Before that, on October 20, the Russian army struck an energy facility in the Sumy region, leaving over 100 settlements in the Romny district without power.
On October 19, Russian forces targeted another energy facility in the region, prompting emergency power outages across the Sumy region. The night before, on October 19, Russian forces also attacked Shostka in the Sumy region with kamikaze drones and Shaheds, damaging energy and infrastructure facilities.
