The war between Russia and Ukraine may be nearing its end. There is a real chance for peace if both sides agree to specific steps, said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to The Guardian.

Rubio emphasized that the war in Ukraine is "end-able".

"Both sides just have to agree to it. We’ve shown them a pathway forward. We’ve discussed those ideas … We’ve shown them the finish line," he told reporters at the White House.

Rubio noted that Russian attacks on Kyiv overnight "should remind everybody of why their war needs to end."

"We can see the finish line, but both of them have to get there. We’re going to do everything we can to help them get there, but they have to ultimately say yes," the US Secretary of State said.

At the same time, according to Rubio, the US is "using a lot of pressure" on both countries.

Progress in peace negotiations for Ukraine

Earlier today, US leader Donald Trump stated that he has his own deadline regarding peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

He also emphasized that once this deadline passes, there will be a "very much different attitude."

Additionally, Trump made a strong statement earlier today following the missile strike on Kyiv. The US President expressed his disappointment that Russian forces had launched a missile strike on Ukraine’s capital and called for an end to the war.

Trump later reiterated his frustration with Russia's attacks on Ukraine on the night of April 24, stressing that it was untimely given the ongoing peace negotiations.

Meanwhile, when asked by a reporter about the concessions Russia has made so far in pursuit of peace, Trump replied that Moscow has already made "qa pretty big concession."
