In Tulcea County, between the localities of Luncavița and Văcăreni, drone debris has been found. The area is currently under guard, and specialists are working on-site to conduct an investigation, Romania's Ministry of National Defense reports.
Event details
"On Sunday, April 26th, The Ministry of National Defence was informed of the existence of drone debris," the statement said.
According to the military, after receiving the report, the perimeter was immediately secured by officers of Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
A joint team comprising specialists from the Ministry of Defense and the Romanian Intelligence Service was dispatched to the site to investigate and collect drone parts.
The case has been handed over to the prosecutor's office attached to the Constanța Court of Appeal for further investigation.
Drone incidents in Romania
This is not the first such case in recent times. Just yesterday, on April 25, during a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, drone debris fell in Romania, damaging a residential building and a power line.
Earlier, on April 17, a Russian drone also entered the country's airspace during a nighttime strike on Ukrainian cities.
Amid repeated provocations, Romania is urgently strengthening border defenses. In particular, the country recently tested a new AI-powered drone interception system called Merops, which is expected to help protect its airspace from Shahed drones.
