Romania doesn't confirm Russian missile flight over its territory
Romania does not confirm that a Russian missile during the shelling of Ukraine entered its territory. Romania will continue the investigation, a Romanian Defense Ministry spokesperson, Constantin Spînu, says.
He noted that Ukraine had informed the Romanian military leadership that a Russian missile had entered Moldovan airspace at about 7:30 a.m. After that, it was within about two minutes in the area of the Romanian city of Darabani.
Romanian Defense Ministry spokesperson emphasized that Romania's air surveillance system, as part of NATO's integrated system, did not detect this situation.
“According to the monitoring data of Romanian air surveillance systems and the data provided by NATO assets that complement the monitoring, the crossing of Romanian airspace was not confirmed in the Romanian area of responsibility,” Spînu said.
According to him, the competent structures of the Ministry of Defense will continue to investigate the situation and clarify all the circumstances.
Background
Today, December 25, the Russians attacked Ukraine with more than 70 missiles and more than 100 drones. As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported, Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed a significant number of drones and more than 50 missiles.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that during the attack, one of the Russian missiles crossed into Moldovan airspace. At the same time, monitoring groups wrote that the Russian missile traveled 140 kilometers across Moldova and Romania.
Moldova made several statements about the Russian missile. At first, the National Army of Moldova said that the episode had probably happened. However, they later corrected themselves and noted that they did not record any missiles or drones in the country's airspace.
Meanwhile, Moldovan President Maia Sandu wrote on social media that a Russian missile violated the country's airspace.
