The CEO of German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, believes Russia dislikes his company’s activities. That is why an assassination attempt was planned against him, stated Papperger, according to LRT.

"I think it’s quite obvious that countries like Russia are not very happy because, as the world’s largest producer of large-caliber ammunition, we are helping Western nations defend themselves," the Rheinmetall CEO said.

He added that law enforcement agencies are currently responsible for his security.

Russia tried to assassinate Papperger

Last year, media reports revealed that Russia had planned to kill Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger but failed. The plot was thwarted by US and German intelligence services.

On November 28, James Appathurai, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary-General for Innovation, Hybrid, and Cyber confirmed for the first time that Russia had indeed attempted to assassinate Papperger.

He also noted that Russian operatives had planned to kill other defense industry executives.
