The Russian army struck a facility belonging to an American company in Dnipro. This shows that Russian President Vladimir Putin holds peace efforts in contempt, states Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Sybiha noted that the targeted Russian strike seriously damaged a sunflower oil production plant in Dnipro owned by the American company Bunge. According to him, the Russian forces have repeatedly attempted to attack this facility.
The foreign minister stressed that Russia is systematically targeting American businesses in Ukraine. Last year, Russian strikes damaged Boeing’s office in Kyiv, a major US electronics manufacturer in Zakarpattia, and other sites.
At the same time, about half of the members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine have had their facilities damaged or destroyed since the start of the full-scale war.
"Putin’s attacks on American businesses and American interests in Ukraine demonstrate his complete disregard for peace efforts led by President Donald Trump. That is why advancing peace efforts is urgent — and Ukraine is ready to move forward — just as strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia," Sybiha added.
He emphasized that Russia’s refusal to show reciprocity in the context of constructive steps toward peace must come at a cost. The Kremlin must feel that this cost is serious.
Strike on the American plant in Dnipro
Today, January 5, a Russian drone attack on city roads in Dnipro caused 300 tons of oil to spill.
According to Mayor Borys Filatov, the targeted plant belongs to the American company Bunge, based in St. Louis, Missouri.
